Resume Worded wanted to offer paid AI resume rewrites. The problem: the manual process required a skilled writer to parse the resume, research the job market, identify gaps, and rewrite across multiple drafts. Cost: $240 per rewrite. Turnaround: multiple days. This couldn't scale, and it couldn't convert their large free critique user base into paying customers efficiently.
I built a multi-layered AI system on a 58-table relational database in Coda.io. The system handles the entire workflow from free critique to paid rewrite delivery.
PDF.js extracts and structures the uploaded resume regardless of format. All data is stored relationally across experience, education, skills, and metrics tables.
The Scrapin API retrieves additional career context from the user's LinkedIn profile — surface accomplishments they didn't include, validate dates, gather metrics.
SerpAPI scrapes 5–10 live job postings matching the user's target role. Claude extracts required skills, preferred keywords, and ATS-critical terminology.
Claude identifies specific gaps — missing metrics, vague accomplishments, unstated results — and auto-generates a tailored follow-up email with targeted questions. Sent automatically via Gmail API.
Based on career level, industry, role type, and current resume quality, the system selects from a library of conditional writing guidelines — ensuring output tone and format match the user's specific situation.
Claude generates the full resume rewrite. Two automated QA passes check accuracy, ATS compatibility, formatting, and guideline adherence before delivery.
The finalized resume is exported to a formatted Google Doc via the Docs API. Claude also adds inline comments with further customization recommendations.
The system reduced per-rewrite cost from $240 to $30 — an 87% reduction — while maintaining 100% customer satisfaction across all completed rewrites. The free critique → paid rewrite conversion rate reached 15%, validating the funnel architecture.
For the client, this transformed a labor-intensive service with a high cost floor into a scalable product with predictable unit economics.
